The ancient site of Malat Abad was designated as a sanctuary.
The archeological project of determining the area and boundaries of the ancient site of Malat Abad in Gilan Gharb city was completed with the permission of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism.
Announcing this news, Nasser Aminikhah, head of the archaeological board, said:
The expansion of urban spaces in remote parts of the country causes ancient sites to be threatened and destroyed. Gilan Gharb city is not exempt from this. The connection of Malat Abad village in the southern edge of Gilan Gharb city has caused the ancient site of Malat Abad to be surrounded by urban constructions and if not taken care of by the centers, this precious heritage will face the risk of being lost. In addition to preserving the ancient sites, the implementation of plans to determine the area and the sanctuary will not confuse the people who intend to build a house in the sanctuary of the ancient sites for themselves.
The head of the archeological board stated:
The advantage of such research is that in addition to protecting the sites, it often leads to scientific discoveries. The area of Malat Abad has two ridges that are located at a distance of 300 meters from each other. Based on surface findings and cultural materials obtained from drilling boreholes, this area is related to the Sassanid and Islamic eras; Although a few artifacts from prehistoric times were also found.
Aminikhah said:
The important discovery about this area is related to the smaller elevation, which according to the present research, it was found that this small hill, introduced by the name of Yav Kol2 (meaning short horse in Kurdish language), is related to a building from the Sassanid era, and according to There are many buildings from the Sassanid era, such as Hasan Zordar fire temple and Sarab Moret fire temple and four arches in Gilan West, there is a possibility that it is related to a fire temple.
Expressing regret that most of this building has been destroyed due to lack of protection, he stated:
What is left of it today is a small mound with a height of 2 meters, which covers an area of about 700 square meters. It is hoped that by exploring this important work, another page of the history of this ancient region will be opened.
