Excavating an ancient castle in Turkey, archaeologists discovered the remains of 2,700-year-old shields and helmets.
According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, archaeologists discovered three bronze shields and a bronze helmet belonging to 2,700 years ago during the excavation of an ancient castle.
“Artnews” wrote, “Ayanis” castle was a fortress near Lake “Van” located in the east of Türkiye, which was built by the kingdom of “Urartu”. This kingdom was at the height of its success between the 9th and 6th centuries BC and was mostly known for its military power and metal production.
Shields and helmets were discovered inside a temple built for the god Urartu of the Yi, having been placed there as offerings.
Of course, these objects are not considered the first or the most significant findings of this area; Because last year a miniature bronze chariot was discovered in this place.
Also, according to archaeologists, similar shields and helmets have been discovered in Iannis, among them, a much more luxurious shield with a decoration similar to a lion’s head was attached to it and was discovered in 1997.
