The Tukad Cepung waterfall in Bali has become one of the most popular sights on Instagram with its unique and magical appearance.
Indonesia is full of beautiful waterfalls and the famous island of Bali hosts some of the most popular ones; such as “Tegenungan”, “Aling-Aling” waterfalls and “Banuyamala” twin waterfalls; But recently, a new and famous waterfall on Instagram called “Tukad Cepung” has caught everyone’s attention. This waterfall is distinguished from other waterfalls in the region by its curtain-like appearance and a magical experience that it offers to visitors in the heart of the lush jungles of Bali.
Tukad Cepung is located in a remote area near Tembuku village in Bangli district. This waterfall is one of the closest waterfalls to “Ubud”, which is a famous tourist area in the bohemian style in the east of Bali. Access to this area takes about 50 minutes by car or motorcycle. There is a free parking lot at the entrance of the waterfall complex. After paying the entrance fee, which is about two dollars per person (there are no ATMs on site; so be sure to bring cash), it’s time to look for Tukad Cepung.
A short but challenging trail to the waterfall takes about 20 minutes. Visitors first descend halfway down the north side of a steep concrete staircase with large, slippery, uneven steps that also have handrails. Along the way, there are some cafes and rest houses; where you can order a chilled coconut to replenish your electrolytes; You then have to cross several narrow gorges, climb over large rocks and wade through a shallow, ankle-deep rocky stream. To return, you have to go back the same way, which is a good exercise for the thigh muscles.

A magical experience at Tukad Cepung
As you get closer to the waterfall, the sound of the flowing water gets louder and your excitement increases. This is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world. What sets Tukad Cepung apart from other Balinese waterfalls is its unique location. The waterfall is hidden inside a dark cave-like cavity where sunlight pours in from above, creating a natural spotlight that illuminates the waterfall as it falls. The light shining through the waterfall gives it a shiny and ethereal look. This light makes the waterfall look like a curtain of light falling from the sky.
The height of the waterfall itself is about 15 meters and the water at its foot is only 30 centimeters deep. Once you reach it, you can walk in this shallow pool and feel the cool and fresh water on your skin. The experience of standing under this curtain of water, while the sunlight shines from above, is truly soulful.
The best time to visit Tukad Cepung at its peak, especially during the amazing light show, is between eight and nine in the morning. The sun’s rays stop around 11:30 in the morning. The waterfall park is open from seven in the morning; But remember that many people come here to take pictures, especially around noon. The cave is small and can get crowded quickly. This waterfall has gained a lot of fame in social networks, especially Instagram, and its photos are widely circulated; But this reputation, both good and bad, has changed the atmosphere of this mysterious place. So get up early to avoid crowds.
Important tips for visiting the waterfall
The real attraction is that there is another waterfall near Tukad Cepung. Remember going down those steep and slippery stairs? If you go down the south side of those steps, you will find a beautiful waterfall that is smaller than Tukad Cepung and falls right in the middle of the forest, from the green rocks. At the right time and place, you might even see a rainbow. Also, next to Tukad Cepung, there is a location for romantic photography suitable for Instagram; A large stone covered with moss, with light shining through the leaves of the forest. Finally, just when you think it can’t get any better, there’s a natural swimming pool inside a green valley with a view of another small, beautiful waterfall.
This short but challenging trail is perfect for adventurous travelers; However, it should be noted that there are no facilities for people with mobility problems. The path can be slippery; especially after rain; Therefore, resistant and waterproof shoes are recommended. If you plan to go to the pool, don’t forget your swimsuit. Otherwise, as the water at the base of Tukad Cepung is very shallow, swimwear is optional. However, due to the strong mist from the falls, you may get wet; Also, be sure to bring water, sunscreen, insect repellent, a waterproof bag, and of course a camera to capture memorable photos.
