NASA’s focus in the coming years will be on interplanetary missions. One of them is a trip to Mars. On the other hand, advanced equipment will be needed for these trips. For this reason, NASA has decided to use deformable robots to perform some tasks by them.
According to Tekna technology and technology news service, researchers from EPFL University developed a robot named Mori3. One of the most important features of this robot is its size and shape, which leads to unique performance. Also, this robot can change from two-dimensional shapes to three-dimensional ones by using shape-changing feature.
Jamie Peek, the director of the robotics laboratory and one of the researchers of this project, says: This fully built robot is inspired by origami shapes, and the purpose of its construction will be to change its shape depending on the place and the items used.
This robot has suitable features for performing space missions. Because it can be configured for specific tasks. Although these researchers believe that this robot can be used in other cases such as communication or repairs. NASA plans to use this robot to carry out missions on Mars. Changing the shape of this robot makes it require less space in missions. Currently, the robots used in these missions have limitations in terms of performance.
