Eric Conner, an Ethereum developer and one of the authors of EIP 1559, believes that there is no longer any reason to compare Ethereum and Solana.
Referring to Ethereum's recent updates, he argues that both networks now behave similarly in terms of transaction fees and transaction confirmation speeds, and both platforms are integrated with valid and mainstream wallets.
Recent Ethereum updates like EIP 1559 seem to have improved the user experience of the network dramatically. In fact, the successful activation of the Dencun update on March 13, 2024, and the introduction of the “blob” data concept, has reduced transaction fees on Ethereum's second layer to below $0.01.

Blob data helps to make Ethereum blocks smaller and more efficient, thereby reducing transaction fees in Ethereum's second layers.
On the other hand, Justin Bons, an analyst of the Cyber Capital investment fund and one of the critics of the scalability of Bitcoin and Ethereum, believes that Solana is still a serious competitor for Ethereum due to its sufficient scalability.
At the same time, he admits that Solana is currently not at the top in terms of user experience and technology. Overall, Ethereum's recent updates have significantly reduced the distance between this network and Solana.
However, some critics still emphasize Solana's potential as a serious competitor to Ethereum.
