Blockchain security firm SlowMist has revealed the details of a hack incident involving a victim who lost their cryptocurrency due to using a fake version of Skype messenger.
Chinese hackers, known for targeting Web3 transactions, were able to gain access to users’ personal information through phishing using a fake Skype app.
The app then uploaded sensitive information, including images and phone numbers, to the hackers. What makes matters worse is that the program tracks users’ message history and replaces cryptocurrency wallet addresses in transactions with addresses determined by attackers.

SlowMist warned users to only download apps from official sources, especially in regions like China where Google Play is blocked, making people victims of fake apps. The attackers obtained significant amounts of Tether (USDT) through these malicious transactions.
