According to a new report from leakster Digital Chat Station, Xiaomi has begun mass production of a new system called Magnetic Lens. This technology is tentatively scheduled for commercial release no earlier than the end of 2026. It is expected that the first product to benefit from this innovation will be the expected Xiaomi Mix 5 phone; The model that marks the return of the MIX flagship series after a 5-year hiatus.
The term magnetic lens most likely refers to a modular optical ecosystem that is very similar to the concept Li Jun introduced in March 2025 for the Xiaomi 15 series.
The concept of this system is based on the possibility that very high-quality external optical elements, and potentially with sensors of M43 dimensions, can be physically attached to the back panel of the phone through a magnetic array.

Unlike common external add-ons, this system uses the phone’s internal image signal processor and its computing power to process the image data received from the external module. The result of this approach is to turn the smartphone into a kind of hybrid mirrorless camera with professional capabilities.
The MIX 5 is expected to be the ultimate embodiment of flat integrated design and will bring together an array of advanced manufacturing technologies:
- Display: Curved four-edge display with absolutely zero borders.
- Camera under the panel: A new generation of high-resolution under-display camera that completely eliminates any holes or cuts on the screen.
- chassis: An all-ceramic unibody, which is a familiar feature of the MIX series and likely uses BM’s new ultra-thin bezel processes to completely eliminate display brackets and plastic buffers.
The whistleblower has explicitly labeled this information as TBD, which means in the process of being decided. Although the key piece, the magnetic lens, has entered the mass production stage, the exact timing of the introduction of the final device and how to fully integrate it still depends on Xiaomi’s product strategy.

The Xiaomi MIX series has been on hiatus since the launch of the MIX 4 in 2021. That device was Xiaomi’s first attempt to make extensive use of under-display camera technology and uses the Snapdragon 888 Plus chip. The possible release of Mix 5 in 2026 can be considered an important return; A comeback aimed at the ultra-premium market and users interested in experimental and innovative hardware.
