iPhone 18 may finally offer a feature in the camera department that Samsung first introduced in 2021 in its flagship phones.
Will the latest iPhone 17 model have a notch? iPhone 18 may come with an under-display selfie camera. This is a feature that has been rumored for several years and Apple is said to be testing it.
All the introductions of the iPhone this year have ended and now we can look to 2026 and the iPhone 18. The latest published rumor shows that Apple may decide to move the selfie camera under the display in this generation.
According to the famous leaker, Smart Pikachu, Apple is testing the underdisplay camera technology for the iPhone 18 models. In this case, the size of the screen cutout is either reduced or completely removed.
If this sounds familiar to you, it’s because such technology has been rumored for years. Maybe 2026 will be the year when this actually happens, although there is no certainty yet.
Other sources have also predicted that the under-display facial recognition camera will come to the iPhone 18 series, which lends more credence to this recent revelation. It is also heard that Apple is gradually moving towards a completely full-screen iPhone.
Other smartphone makers have been experimenting with under-display cameras for years. You probably remember the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 that was introduced in 2021. This phone used a sub-display camera on its 7.6-inch main screen.
However, it should be noted that the quality of that camera was not very good and Samsung has since abandoned this technology. All of the Galaxy phones introduced in 2025, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, have a conventional selfie camera.
Although Apple is not always the first company to innovate in the smartphone industry, it usually delivers new technologies in a way that is better than most of its competitors. Its obvious examples are the touch fingerprint sensor and facial recognition, and the foldable iPhone may be another example of the same approach.
