The Pixel 5 Series will be the first smartphones to support WhatsApp voice and video calling through satellite. This feature is available since August 1. The purpose of “satellite communication” is that if there is no mobile network coverage, the phone can connect directly to the telecommunications satellites and transmit a call or message.

Google has announced that using this feature will only be possible to support contract operators and that operators may cost extra.
