The newly leaked information shows that the Snapdragon X2 Elite processor, which will soon be introduced for laptops, may support RAM up to 2 GB and have up to 4 processing cores. If this claim is true, this chipset will be a more powerful and flexible option for ARM architecture -based laptops.
The new Snapdragon X2 and X2 Plus processors are expected to be officially unveiled during the Sanapdragon Summit event in September. It is also expected that the next generation of Qualcomm mobile processors will be unveiled.
Laptops equipped with ARM processors are currently facing restrictions on RAM. But based on new information posted by Roland Quantum, one of the reputable sources of technology, X2 Elite has been more supportive of RAM. Currently, laptops that use the Snapdragon X Elite processor support up to 32GB of RAM. But the X2 Elite seems to provide users with up to 5GB of RAM and allow more varied configurations.
Meanwhile, Qualcomm is reported that Qualcomm is testing a version of the X2 Elite with 4 processing cores. Currently, the Snapdragon X Elite has 4 processor cores. Alongside the X2 Elite, another model, the X2 Plus, will be introduced to replace the Snapdragon X Plus chipset. The chip will probably be introduced in September at the same time as the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 for smartphones.
The popularity of laptops equipped with ARM architecture is increasing. The trend intensified when Apple decided to abandon the Intel X86 chips and use ARM -based Apple Silicon chips. Previously, Qualcomm had already released processors with ARM architecture for Microsoft Surface computers. However, the Snapdragon X series chips are the actual representative of Qualcomm’s effort in this area. Companies such as Lenovo, HP and Acer are currently laptops equipped with these chips.
ARM -based processors have smaller dimensions and therefore make it possible to produce less weight laptops. This is important for laptops that are inherently designed for portability. In addition, these chips usually do not require fan, so laptops work less. Most importantly, these processors have less energy consumption and thus provide better battery life to the devices, which is one of the important factors in choosing a laptop.
