In early December, two Japanese, Honda and Nissan car giants signed a long -term integration with a memorandum of understanding. They formed a committee to investigate the possibility of a joint holding company; A company that may have started operating early in the early days. But this dream soon faced serious challenges and there are signs of the failure of this collaboration.
According to Reuters, the possibility of cancellation has increased sharply. The sources that have not been named have announced that the negotiations between Honda and Nissan have come to an end, as the two companies have failed to agree on key issues. Although the board of directors of both companies are still examining the future of this partnership, the situation does not seem to be promising. In addition, the Asian Nikki Magazine has also confirmed that talks about the merger have been suspended for now.
Although in appearance, Honda and Nissan were only investigating the possibility of integration, reports show that Honda had a tendency to take Nissan as a subsidiary in private meetings. In fact, some sources claim that Honda intends to buy Nissan completely, but this approach has faced strong opposition.
According to today’s report, the plan has been underway months before the official announcement of the talks. Former Nissan Carlos Carlos Goson had earlier warned that Honda was running a hidden domination over Nissan.
Bloomberg reports that the Nissan Board of Directors may oppose Honda’s request to control the company at a meeting today. This decision can change the fate of a possible integration. However, it seems that some senior Nissan executives are not very opposed to the idea, and Honda may still be at the forefront.
In the meantime, Honda has been silent and a spokesman for the company has refused to provide any explanations. On the other hand, Nissan has confirmed through Reuters that the negotiations are still ongoing and that the final decision will be announced by mid -month.
While Mitsubishi has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Honda and Nissan, reports show that the company is reluctant to integrate. It seems that Mitsubishi prefers to remain independent, but still welcomes the development of strategic cooperation.
On the other hand, Honda seeks to remove Renault from the equation. According to reports, the Japanese automaker is reluctant to interfere with Renault in a possible integration and is trying to buy Nissan shares from the French company. Honda’s goal is to eliminate Renault’s influence and take full control of Nissan.
If this integration ultimately realizes, the new holding company could become the world’s third largest car maker after Toyota and the Volkswagen Group.
