Researchers have identified a feathered starfish in the Arctic Ocean that has a different appearance and has 20 arms.
According to Tekna technology and technology news service, researchers identified a new species of feathered starfish while researching in the Southern Arctic Ocean, whose appearance is very different and strange. Researchers have named this strange creature Strawberry, which has 20 arms. Some arms are feathered and others are uneven. According to Greg Ross, a PhD in biology from the University of California, some of the arms of this strange starfish can reach 20 centimeters in length.
According to published reports, its appearance does not look much like a strawberry. But if you look closely on its body, there is a small tip on the arms that looks very similar to a strawberry. This new species named Promachocrinus kerguelensis belongs to the crinoid family. This group of animals includes starfish, sea urchins, cucumbers and sea lilies.
According to Ross, most of the identified feather stars have only 10 arms. The newly discovered creature has 20 arms and this has surprised scientists. The type of arms are also folded downwards. Ross said in this regard: By discovering this new species, researchers can, in addition to knowing more than 8 other species of starfish, have a better understanding of the separate and previously discovered species and revive them.
