Zahra Farahani, head of the cooperation group with international organizations of the Presidential Development and Cooperation Center, on the sidelines of the BRICS research infrastructure and scientific projects working group meeting being held in Tehran, in a conversation with Mehr reporter, while pointing out that this center acts as a contact point for Iran’s technology and innovation cooperation with the BRICS group, said: After the presence of Dr. Ahadzadeh, the head of the Presidential Development and Cooperation Center, in the 12th meeting of BRICS science and technology ministers last year, Iran hosted three BRICS meetings. assumed that today’s meeting, the seventh meeting of the working group of research infrastructures and large scientific projects, is one of them.

Farahani clarified: Science and technology is the only field that has a specific and regular organization in the BRICS structure. BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation Steering Committee has 13 specialized working groups of its sub-categories, one of the most important of which is the working group for research infrastructures and large scientific projects.

He continued: This working group, which was established in 2015, aims to define practical and operational collaborations and joint research to solve global challenges and problems, especially in the Global South.

The head of the cooperation group with international organizations also noted: On the first day of the meeting, the active and productive presence of 8 BRICS member countries including China, Russia, India, Brazil, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, Iran and Indonesia was significant.

According to Mehr, the focus of this meeting in Tehran is on issues such as the development of joint research cooperation among BRICS member countries, helping to advance the mechanisms of defining and financing large scientific projects, promoting the role of research infrastructure as an engine of innovation, sustainable development and scientific diplomacy.

The key objectives of the Working Group on Research Infrastructures and Scientific Projects of BRICS include promoting cooperation in large-scale research infrastructures, supporting initiatives for efficient use, development and management of large-scale scientific projects, and creating a dynamic environment for the development of research infrastructures among BRICS countries.
