Researchers from Purdue University have come up with a new solution to combat global warming. In 2021, they invented a type of white paint that could reflect up to 98% of light. If this ring covers 1-2% of the earth, it can help solve the problem of global warming.
According to Tekna technology and technology news service, according to the report published by Science Alert website, Professor Jeremy Mandy, from the University of California School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, said in the context of this study: If 1-2% of the earth’s surface is colored White made to be covered increases the reflection of light into the space and thus reduces the absorption of light. With this method, it can reduce the temperature of the earth to some extent. According to him, the return of light to space will not harm the universe. But how much is one to two percent of the earth?
The total area of the earth, most of which is covered by water, is approximately 510 million square kilometers. Of this amount, 1-2% will be equal to 5-10 million square kilometers. For example, the United States is about 9 million square kilometers. So the said amount will be the size of the United States. On the other hand, according to the produced paint, 139 billion gallons of paint are needed for this work. This amount can only cover 1%.
Of course, these calculations do not end only with the required amount. Because the difficulties of painting deserts and mountains should also be added. It seems that this solution cannot be very practical and cannot solve the problem of climate change in the long run.
