The research project “Design and Analysis of Physical Layer Security for the Next Generation Telecommunication Network” was completed by Dr. Path Azzami, a member of the faculty of Tarbiat Modarres University, with the support of the National Iranian Science Foundation, according to .
The project designs, optimizes and simulates a confidential telecommunication network based on practical layer security techniques (PLS) in line with the development of the National Network of Security and Sustainable Information and aimed at enhancing the security of the fifth generation telecommunications networks and beyond (4G & Beyond).
Referring to the importance of this study, Dr. Azizi said: Development of technologies such as machine -to -machine communication, Internet of Things, smart cities, turns future networks into complex and dense structures that require new security methods at different levels. In such networks, preserving the confidentiality and sustainability of communication is of great importance.
He added: “Due to the nature of wireless transmission, electromagnetic waves can be exposed to unauthorized users or in some cases even damaged.” This, especially in sensitive applications such as military and industrial systems, creates additional challenges that provide effective solutions as a complement to conventional encryption methods.
Dr. Azizami pointed to similar studies in advanced countries: In the US and the United Kingdom, centers such as the National Foundation for Science and Research of Engineering and Physics Research have conducted numerous research to promote the security of the next generation networks, which in some cases have led to laboratory implementation.
According to the faculty member, the highlight of the project is the attention to hardware defects, channel estimation errors, as well as realistic models of complex and multilayer networks. In this study, even situations such as conveying confidential message through unreliable intermediate nodes are considered.
In the end, he emphasized: The results of this study could be a basis for designing a national safe and sustainable information network in the country, and in addition to applying to commercial networks such as 4G, it can also be used and localized in strategic areas, including military applications.
