According to the Mehr correspondent, “Astronomy Day” is a global occasion to promote astronomy and familiarize the public with the night sky. This day is usually held on one of the weekends on the seventh night of the lunar month in the mid -April to mid -May (April 5 to May 6).

The reason for this method of choosing astronomy is that the crescent of the moon (first) is visible in the sky and provides good conditions for observing it with a telescope and astronomy training. On this evening, observatories, astronomical groups, and astronomy enthusiasts are organizing programs such as sky observation, lectures, exhibitions and workshops to promote public awareness of the night sky and the attractions of the astronomical world.

According to the Amateur Committee of the Iranian Astronomical Association, promotional activities related to astronomy week will be held from May 1 to May 1 and Friday, May 9, is the day of astronomy.

He further invited all astronomical associations and groups across Iran to register in the “Online Form” system with the necessary coordination for the ITS with the Amateur Committee of the Iranian Astronomical Association to provide the best information and public call nationwide.

The head of the Iranian Astronomical Association’s Amateur Committee’s Integrity Committee of the Iranian Astronomy Committee pointed out more details of the day of astronomy in Tehran: In Tehran, we will have two or three main and active centers for astronomy day. Tehran astronomy activists will introduce the general public to astronomy by attending centers such as the Mina Dome and the Zafarani Observatory. During the night, we will also have a telescope at the designated centers. Our estimate is that about 5 telescopes will be active in different centers of Tehran, so thousands of clients can have the opportunity to get acquainted with astronomy.

All groups, centers and individuals from all over the country can be active in the call.

At the end, Jafari Zadeh added: “Coordination meetings will be held with astronomy officials in different cities and provinces and the unveiling of the astronomy week poster will be held in the coming days.”
