The largest organic compounds ever found on Mars increase the hope of discovering ancient life on the Red Planet.
According to RCO News AgencyCuriosity has discovered the largest organic compounds ever found on Mars.
The discovery took place in the YellowNife Gulf, a former lake bed that once had all the conditions for the emergence of life.
In a new discovery, the researchers have found the largest organic compounds ever seen on Mars to provide new clues about whether there was a time on the Red Planet.
The largest organic compounds ever found on Mars have been buried within a 3.7 billion -year -old stone sample discovered by NASA’s Curiosity Mars.
Experiments show that this stone contains long chain alkar and organic molecules that are thought to be residues of fatty acids.
While these compounds can be formed through non -biological chemical reactions, they are also essential building blocks of cell membrane in all living things on earth.
However, the researchers have not reported a biological sign that is defined as “attribute, element, molecule, matter or attribute” and acts as evidence of past or present life.
Of course, one expert noted that it shows the best chance of identifying the signs of ancient life on Mars.
“These molecules can be made by chemistry or biology,” says Dr. Caroline Freissinet, an analytical chemist.
“If we have high -chain fatty acids on Mars, these fatty acids may be due to the demolition of the cell membranes of 3.7 billion years,” he said. This is, of course, only one hypothesis.
The largest organic compounds found
In this new study, Firecint and his colleagues developed a new method for analyzing a larger part of the flower sample.
As a result, the “curiosity” rover identified larger organic molecules, including Decan, Andan and Smoke.
During their research, scientists analyzed a sample called Cumberland, which may contain carboxylic acids or fatty acids that become Alkan during the heating process.
Scientists say that although non -living processes can form these acids, they are considered world -class biochemistry, ground and perhaps Mars products.
In a deeper analytics, scientists discovered that the organic matter of Mars, like creatures on the ground, made fatty acids by adding two carbon atoms, and the one in the middle with 12 carbon more than the other two.
“We have the same trend on Mars, but the process taken from three molecules is not a real process,” says Firesin. However, it is very attractive.
Life clues on Mars
Recent findings reinforce the hope that the organic signs of life can remain on Mars for billions of years and increase the chance of ancient life.
The Martian probe carries another stone sample that may show larger organic matter that potentially enhances the couple’s fatty acids.
The Mars Curiosity adventure began in 2011 and launched a mission to explore Mars in the past.
During these years, curiosity has traveled more than 32 kilometers to the Gale and discovered clues about the ancient environment of the Red Planet.
After six years of his mission, the NASA probe discovered organic matter in ancient flowers, which only includes short carbon chain molecules. The probe has been excavating in Mars since October 2023.
For more than seven years, “Curiosity” continues to climb the Sharp and analyzes its layer formations.
The study is published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
