Euclid’s space mission is supposed to reveal the secrets of two mysterious substances in the universe. These two phenomena are dark energy and dark matter that will be investigated by this telescope.
According to Tekna technology and technology news service, the Euclid spacecraft will start its work on the 10th of July. This mission will be carried out at a distance of 150 million kilometers from the earth, and it will be a long distance for this spacecraft. The location of this telescope is the second Lagrangian point. In this place, the investigation and discovery of dark matter begins.
Astronomer Stephen Wilkins says about this mission: This telescope has the same resolution as the Hubble telescope. Therefore, it will be possible to image a third of the night sky. Researchers hope to use this telescope to provide a complete and detailed map of the night sky.
The Euclid telescope will use a technology called gravitational lensing to observe dark matter. In this feature, millions of images of galaxies will be recorded. Then, with the help of these images, the stretching of light due to gravity will be observed and recorded.
“Gravitational lensing was created with the aim of discovering dark matter and can show us its constituents,” says Mathilde Zuzak, a professor at Durham University about the telescope’s technology. Light particles may be components of dark matter. In this case, a special lensing will be created by this substance. If there are very large particles in the dark matter, the type of lensing produced will also be different. Using this information, it is possible to follow the study of dark matter in the earth.
