Scientists’ new breathing test uses vapors and gases created by certain cancers to detect them before they get old. This breath test uses these symptoms as biomarkers and analyzes them.
According to Tekna technology and technology news service, early detection of cancer can be the best way to fight this disease. A new breath test that was recently developed makes it possible to detect certain types of cancer before the early stages.
The test, designed by researchers at King’s College London, consists of a plastic bag, metal cylinder and suction tube that collects and analyzes the patient’s breath. There is a substance inside the tube that makes it easier to absorb better. Another tool called a thermal extractor helps scientists separate compounds after the collection process.
Professor George Hanna, head of the cancer department at the Royal College Hospital, says: Metabolite is a substance that is produced by the tumor and its surrounding tissue. Some of them can be identified by the gas they produce. They are called volatile compounds. The initial test of this expression has been done on several patients and it is planned to be done on 25,000 more patients in the future.
