Wood-burning fireplaces are the biggest source of Britain’s most dangerous air pollutant, PM2.5, researchers have warned. While the UK has seen significant reductions in pollution from road transport and heavy industries such as steel in recent decades, the increasing use of wood-burning fireplaces has significantly increased particulate emissions.
