According to RCO News Agency, quoted by Euronews, residents of the Russian city of “Olekminsk” have posted videos on social networks that show a comet-like object passing through the sky of the Yakuta region located in Siberia.
Yakutia officials warned that the asteroid was approaching Earth, but confirmed that no damage was reported after it landed. The European Space Agency announced that this asteroid was probably 70 cm in diameter and was discovered just 12 hours before it appeared.
This space organization announced in a statement: Thanks to the observations of astronomers around the world, our warning system was able to predict this collision in about 10 seconds.
According to the Independent magazine, NASA has also announced that this asteroid, which is called C0WEPC5, was discovered by the Bok telescope of the University of Arizona at 11:14 a.m. US time.
