He stated that the subject of the Congress is various wounds that are of concern to the health systems of the world today. In addition to causing various disabilities, wounds can have harmful personal and social effects.
Referring to two types of acute and chronic wounds, the congress secretary said: acute wounds, including wounds caused by accidents and wars, and chronic wounds such as diabetes. Chronic wounds are wounds that have not healed for more than 6 weeks. Diabetes is the main cause of chronic wounds.
Stating that according to the latest estimates, the prevalence of diabetes is 6.5% of the population, he said: We have more than 460 million people with diabetes in the world, and it is the third most populous country in the world after India and China.
He added: Out of 4 people with diabetes, 3 people have ulcers and 1 out of 4 people suffer from amputation. The prevalence of amputation is higher in active members of the family (such as men) and they face economic challenges for the family.
Tabaei pointed out: 45 million people in the world suffer from diabetic ulcers every year, and people who suffer from diabetic foot ulcers have a 30% higher mortality rate in 5 years, which is higher than many common cancers.
Stating that all these issues show the importance of the issue of wounds, he added: Other factors such as obesity affect wounds. Iran is the 6th fattest country in the world, which causes chronic wounds.
According to the head of the Medical Sciences Academic Jihad Organization; The third factor in the occurrence of ulcers is the aging of the population, which can aggravate various chronic diseases, including diabetes. One third of people over the age of 65 have diabetes.
