On September 18, 2024, at 7:00 PM EST (11:00 PM UTC), Rocket Lab’s Electron rocket failed to launch from the New Zealand space station. This rocket was supposed to launch five Internet of Things satellites for the French company Kinais. According to reports, after the countdown started and the engines of the first stage of the rocket were turned on, for unknown technical reasons, the engines suddenly shut down and the launch operation was canceled.
According to Tekna Technology Media’s Astronomy News Service, Rocket Lab announced in an official statement that due to the urgent nature of this mission, further attempts to launch on the same day have been halted. The technical team of this company is investigating the reasons for this problem and planning to try again in the near future. It should be noted that the time window for the launch of this mission was set for 14 days. This was Rocket Lab’s second attempt to launch Kinesis satellites. Previously, on June 20, five more satellites of this company were sent into space by the Electron rocket.
Kineis plans to launch a total of 25 satellites into Earth’s orbit using Electron Lab rockets. Electron rocket is a small satellite launcher whose height is 18 meters. Rocket Lab has successfully completed 52 space missions so far. To see the latest news, refer to the scientific news page of Tekna Media.
