Boeing’s Starliner space capsule will leave the International Space Station today, Friday, September 6, without the presence of astronauts. Those interested can watch this space event live.
According to Tekna Technology Media Astronomy News Service, the live broadcast of this event started at 17:45 Eastern Time (05:45 AM Iran time), which includes the capsule separation stage at 18:04 Eastern Time (06:04 AM will be in Iran time). The event can be followed on Space.com or on NASA TV.
Enthusiasts could make a small model of this space capsule by purchasing the Boeing CST-100 Starliner 3D metal modeling kit from Metal Earth for $10.95 from Amazon online store.
The first manned flight test of Starliner to the International Space Station (ISS) was carried out on June 5th and it was connected to this station on June 6th. However, the first connection attempt failed. Before launch, the Starliner suffered a helium leak, and five of its 28 reaction control engines failed during docking operations. Initially, the duration of the CFT mission was predicted to be about 10 days; But NASA extended the duration of the mission, which finally reached about three months, with the aim of conducting extensive ground and space tests on the Starliner propulsion system.
After a final review, NASA decided that the return of the two CFT mission astronauts, Butch Willmore and Sonny Williams, using the Starliner capsule was not feasible due to certain hazards. Therefore, the two astronauts will return to Earth in February 2025 using SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule and the unmanned Starliner capsule.
