According to new research, the rate of breast cancer in young women has increased in the last decade.
According to Tekna technology and technology news service, research by Washington University researchers in the United States shows that in the last two decades, the rate of breast cancer in women under 50 has increased, and even in recent years, this upward trend has become much more intense. In this study, the researchers examined about 217,000 patients with this cancer and took into account factors such as race and age. According to these researchers, the risk of contracting this cancer in black women under 30 years old is about 53% higher than that of white women of this age.
According to the article published on this issue in 2000, the incidence of breast cancer among women aged 20 to 49 was about 64 cases per 100,000 people. While this rate continued to increase until 16 years later and grew by 24 percent every year. In 2016, this rate reached 66 cases per 100,000 people. The incidence rate suddenly increased in recent years until 2009 and reached 74 cases per 100,000 people. Of course, researchers have not yet found solid reasons for this growth rate of breast cancer.
The senior author of this research says: Most women do not start regular breast cancer screening before the age of 40, therefore, younger women who are diagnosed with this disease have later-stage tumors. This means that their disease is more advanced and its treatment is more difficult.
In this research, the data of 217,000 American women between 2000 and 2019 were analyzed in all types of breast cancer. According to this study, most of the increasing trends in the incidence of cancer have been associated with tumors that have the ability to bind to estrogen receptors. These tumors can connect to the estrogen hormone and grow through the proteins on their surfaces. On the other hand, the incidence of tumors without estrogen receptors has decreased drastically in recent years. Researchers are trying to discover the rate and reason for the specific increase in tumors with this receptor, so that they can prevent the increase in this type of cancer in young women.
