Mircea Dinka, an energy professor at MIT, says: This material can have a great impact on this industry in the future. Because it is competitive with current technologies and can reduce biological problems and costs by placing it inside batteries.

Cobalt is used as cathode in lithium ion batteries. This rare metal has a very high price. Also, the extraction of this metal creates toxic waste and can pollute the land, air and water.
