Researchers say that staying in traffic and increasing commuting time during the day can be effective in suffering from mental health problems such as depression.
According to Tekna technology and technology news service, recent research by Korean researchers shows that staying in traffic and prolonging the travel time can cause depression or other mental health diseases. In a study in which more than 23,000 people were present, Korean citizens with more than one hour of daily commuting were used. These people experienced symptoms of depression about 16% more than people who were in traffic for only 30 minutes.
Previous research in this field also showed that traffic can have negative effects on physical health due to the reduction of physical activity time. According to a recent study, the increase in traffic is also related to the increase in blood pressure. This issue is not related to sitting for a long time and it was due to inhalation of polluted air by the drivers. Currently, South Korea, having the longest commuting time among OECD member countries, has also experienced the highest rate of depression.
