Northwestern University scientists have developed a biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic melanin. Melanin as a natural pigment in human skin is produced by melanocide cells and its function is to protect the skin from the harm of ultraviolet rays.

After studying melanin for more than a decade, researchers tested its synthetic version with the aim of protecting against the damage of processing rays. Natan Jianski, the author of the study and one of the researchers of this project, says: This cream is able to fully protect the skin from damage. In addition to absorbing radicals, the artificial melanin used in this cream can also be used topically for healing after skin damage. Nano particles are also used in this cream, which can be used to destroy and neutralize harmful free radicals by changing the structure of melanin. According to researchers, artificial melanin has a higher capacity compared to human melanin to destroy free radicals. By stabilizing the skin, it puts it on the path of recovery.
