Currently, surgery is considered the first step in the treatment of brain tumors. Of course, surgeons do not know exactly the type of tumor and its degree of malignancy before surgery. Only after surgery by a neurologist and by visual and molecular analysis of the tumor tissue can the accurate diagnosis of the type of tumor be made.
According to Tekna technology and technology news service, the deep learning algorithm of researchers named UMC Utrecht is a type of artificial intelligence that can detect the type of tumor with great accuracy and with a remarkable speed.
De Rieger, one of the researchers of this study and the leader of the research group about this artificial intelligence, said: Recently, the possibility of sequencing with nanohole technology has been created, with the help of which you can read DNA in real time. With this technology, it was possible to develop an algorithm for learning millions of simulated DNA photos. With the help of the developed algorithm, the tumor can be identified in just 20 to 40 minutes. This process is so fast that it can be directly adapted to the surgical strategy if necessary.
The use of this detection method has been successfully tested several times in real brain surgeries and for tissue removal in the operating room. The Princess Maxima Center in the Netherlands has confirmed the reliability of this technique after performing this procedure during brain surgeries and uses it for children.
