MIT researchers believe that sounds related to deep-earth rocks can indicate the depth of this planet.
According to Tekna technology and technology news service, one of the MIT geological researchers named Matich says about this: If you listen to the sound of rocks, you can hear them louder at greater depths. During deep exploration, the earth’s core produces various sounds, such as the sound of a firecracker explosion or something similar to the squeezing of a wire or chain. This sound is created from the cracks and pores in the rocks and comes to its surface.
Recently, the researchers of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in a study found that the rocks deep in the earth have a rhythm and speed of sound, which will indicate the depth and strength of these rocks. These geologists managed to discover sound patterns in these rocks by conducting various experiments. The initial test was done on marble and placing them under different pressures simulated similar conditions in the earth’s crust.
“If you move deeper into the earth, the sounds get louder and louder,” says MIT geologist Matich. This research group intends to discover their special sound pattern by studying more on the rocks and to know whether this sound pattern appears under different pressures or not.
