The arrest of a father and son linked to ISIS in Richmond Hill, Ontario, has led to deep concerns among Canadian Conservative MPs. These representatives have called for a parliamentary inquiry into the country’s immigration and security screening system, especially in relation to granting citizenship to people who may pose serious security threats to Canada.
The Conservatives have asked the Public Security Committee of the Parliament to investigate this case and answer the question of how these two people, despite the history of connection with the ISIS terrorist group, were able to come to Canada and one of them received Canadian citizenship. This issue has caused serious concerns about the way of security checks in the process of immigration and granting citizenship.
In response to the request, the government and security agencies have declined to comment on individual cases, accusing Conservative government officials of exploiting the issue politically.
Ahmed Fawad Mustafa Al-Didi, who was also accused of a serious attack outside of Canada in favor of ISIS in 2015, is now facing new charges in Canada and his case is under review. This has led to more discussions about national security and the Canadian immigration system.
