Every day of our life, we go through sad events such as poverty, pollution, disease, war, etc. These are issues that will make anyone sad.
Fortunately, a great way to deal with all this ugliness is to make the change we want to see happen.
None of us can change the entire world on our own, but by making small changes in our lives and encouraging others to do the same, something happens that can affect the entire planet in time.
In this article from Alamo Magazine, we introduce some simple ways through which you (yes, even you) can help make a positive change in the world. Stay with us until the end of the article.
Share positive things
For every terrible story that hits the internet or the news, there is a wonderful and beautiful story to counter it. Avoid accepting the events and ugliness that the mainstream media tries to feed you and instead be inspired by the wonder, beauty and compassion in the world.
There are websites that are full of uplifting stories. These websites can remind you that there is still a lot of good in the world. Once your heart shines, share those stories on social media to inspire others.
plant a tree
You will be surprised at the impact that a piece of greenery can have on the environment. If you have a piece of land that you can turn into a garden, it is the best thing you can do to make this world more beautiful.
Planting all kinds of fruit trees and harvesting them will make us have a self-sufficient country. If you are interested in planting flowers and plants, plant flowers that are suitable for pollination and purposes such as bee attraction and honey production.
If you don’t have land, but you have a passion for planting flowers, plants, and trees, consider participating in tree planting projects. This way you help others develop their gardening skills and help empower them by showing them how to be self-sufficient.
meditate
There is no need to follow a particular religion or philosophy for meditation. Also, meditation does not require you to sit on the floor in a certain way while speaking in a language you do not understand.
Meditation is simply a mindfulness practice that involves quieting your thoughts and emotions so that you can live in the present moment.
This exercise helps calm the nerves to reduce stress and anxiety and creates a sense of mental peace.
This inner peace is reflected in all other aspects of life. For example, it makes you a little more patient with others, or you have more self-esteem, or even you can appreciate the little beauties you come across instead of being affected by all the negative things that happen.
Speak up and take action
If there are issues that concern you, talk about it and resolve it. Sign the papers that require your signature.
Make an appointment to meet with someone who has the power to change things and share your concerns with them. If you know someone who misbehaves with others, admonish them for their bad behavior.
If you find that the company that makes your favorite chocolate, drink, or any other product seems questionable, try to find a more ethical product that you enjoy just as much, and let the company you’re boycotting know why you won’t be supporting them again. Your voice can have a profound impact, so let it be heard.
Pay attention to the cleanliness of your city
You are probably conscientious about proper waste disposal, but others may not be so conscientious. If you see a piece of trash thrown out of a car window or just lying on the ground, pick it up and put it in the trash.
Keep a pair of rubber or latex gloves in your bag for this. If you see someone throwing garbage in the public space, be sure to warn him.
We must learn that the cleanliness of the street is as important and valuable as the cleanliness of our personal space.
Stop water pollution
Have you ever been extremely thirsty? So thirsty that you feel like your throat is closing up and your lips are chapped and you think you’re going to die?
Consider the fact that almost 70% of our bodies are made up of water, and almost all animals and plants need water to survive. Then consider the fact that only 2% of all water on Earth is potable, and a significant amount of it is already polluted due to all the garbage we pour into it.
Every drop of chemical cleaner, every drop of hair dye, every drop of pesticide, paint, non-biodegradable detergent, toilet bowl cleaner, etc. enters the water system.
Although drinking water in cities is highly filtered, many of these toxins leak into the soil and groundwater surface, destroying life all over the planet. People and animals around the world often have to choose between dying of thirst and being poisoned by contaminated water sources.
Try to be as environmentally friendly as possible. If you dye your hair, use herbal dyes or henna instead of chemical dyes. Instead of harmful chemical cleaners, all you really need is vinegar, baking soda, and essential oils.
Rethink your eating habits
Make a list of the items you usually buy at the grocery store and do a little research on where these items come from. If you eat meat, is it from local sources where the animals are treated ethically?
Do your eggs come from a place where birds are kept in small cages? Is purchased sugar picked up by children?
Look at your food sources and see if you are contributing to the well-being of others or if your habits could be a little more compassionate and conscientious.
Learn more about what you buy, wear and use
Just like food, clothing should be sourced from the right place. But few people take the time to really research the origins of their clothing.
Does the company that makes your shirt source pesticide-laden cotton from developing countries?
Are your jeans hand-sewn by children in Thailand or India?
Have animals been harmed using real fur for your jacket or boots?
You can’t expect others to do it until you do it yourself.
Volunteer to help others
There are many ways to give of your time to others, so don’t feel like you have to put yourself in a position you’re uncomfortable with in order to make a difference.
Some people may be happy working in soup kitchens or helping street youth, while others may not and that’s totally normal! There are a variety of volunteer opportunities for people of all ages, professions and physical abilities.
If you love the outdoors, consider volunteering to help clean up parks. Do you love animals? Are you an incredibly busy all-rounder?
Set aside an hour or more a month to help young coaches who want to follow in your footsteps. Do you have a special skill?
You can use your skills by knitting warm hats, scarves and gloves for people in need, such as women and children or even orphans and refugees abroad. Rest assured that there are volunteer jobs that are perfect for you and that it doesn’t take much effort to make a significant difference in someone else’s life.
be kind
We all get frustrated and upset from time to time, but the energy we put into the universe acts like a domino. The person you yelled at in traffic may take out the frustration of your behavior on another innocent person.
The innocent person goes home and shouts. Because he had a bad day, he fights with his children. Then the children fight with each other. This cycle continues, as this network increases and infiltrates the population, the enemy network becomes larger and larger.
If you’re feeling angry or frustrated about a situation, take a step back and really consider what’s going on. Is this an opportunity to test your patience further? What can you learn from this situation? Wouldn’t the world be a better place if you changed your tune and were more compassionate towards others?
In addition to responding positively to distressing circumstances, we can also take the initiative to pour some good into the world. Practicing random acts of kindness also creates a domino effect, as others want to appreciate the positive energy transferred to them and then decide to do good deeds in return.
And the final word…
The actions listed above don’t take much effort, but if every single person on the planet implements just a few of them, we can see real change for the betterment of this magnificent planet. Hoping that day…
