The year of Safar, Tehran Design Week was held from 5 to 15 August 1403 in two sections, exhibition and urban event. This event, which was started in 2018 with the aim of linking industry and university, in order to produce authentic Iranian furniture, was displayed for the first time in a wider and exhibition form during one week. The organizer of this exhibition was the pioneers of the furniture industry of Persia (FIPCO) under the support of the Union of Furniture Manufacturers and Exporters of Iran.
But holding an exhibition in the field of fashion, the special styles of the visitors and the presence of the Dersa brand drew the attention of fashion people including the wardrobe team to this event more than before and made us prepare a report of this event after the visit and in this article to the week Let’s design Tehran.
An overview of Tehran Design Week
This week, nearly 70 historical and cultural places in Tehran hosted designers, architects and artists to showcase the dynamic world of design, furniture art, crafts and Iranian culture.
The display of visual arts works, discussion panels, design competition and introduction of brand products were among the other programs of this event, and various brands such as Darsa, West and Dzen were present this week.
Participation in this event was free for all artists and designers in different fields of design, such as furniture designers, architects, product designers, light designers, graphic designers and even fashion designers, and since this event was held in order to raise the level of awareness and public culture. The neighborhoods of the center of Tehran, which are full of cultural places such as mansions, historical alleys, theaters and galleries, were chosen to host.
West House, Karstan House and Bahrami House in District 11, Iranshahr Book City in District 6, Masoudieh Mansion and Union House (Amin al-Stan) in District 12 and a number of cultural places in Districts 1 and 3 of Tehran were the hosts of the urban event of Tehran Design Week, where beautiful works with Techniques such as papier-mâché, art deco, ebony and patina were displayed from various designers.
An exhibition focusing on fashion in our house
In addition to furniture and visual arts, an exhibition in the field of fashion was also held during the design week in the shared work space of our house, curated by Sara Mahdian. This place, which is more than fifty years old and with vintage and old decor, had created an atmosphere full of peace and creativity. This exhibition included several works from the field of visual art, origami art, conceptual clothes, conceptual accessories, printed fabrics, moodboards and etudes.
The first thing that attracted attention in this exhibition was the lack of coordination and poor performance of some works:
Lack of correlation between clothes due to the lack of a single theme
Lack of connection between the futuristic and extraterrestrial clothes of the exhibition with the nostalgic venue
• Poor quality sewing and poor execution of some clothes
Of course, the finalization of this exhibition a few days before the start of Tehran Design Week and the preparation of this section in a limited period of 2 days justified some of the above.
During the Tehran Design Week, which mainly focused on furniture and architecture design, holding only one clothing exhibition could be questioned to some extent. When all the attention is focused on the design of furniture, architecture and decorative accessories, allocating space and facilities to display clothes of ordinary or lower quality seems a bit debatable and it would be better to hold a clothing exhibition to a separate event related to the fashion week. was given
The style of visitors in Tehran Design Week
In Tehran Design Week, in addition to the exhibited works and designs, the visitors’ clothing was also very interesting. In this exhibition, different levels of audience were present and they were dressed in different tastes and styles, which was not without pleasure to see. It can even be said that the style of the visitors in some cases was as distinct and remarkable as the exhibited works. This diversity and creativity in the field of fashion and clothing in the design week showed another manifestation of the dynamism and cultural diversity of the society.
