Recent studies by scientists on antioxidants such as vitamin C and E show that they are able to create new blood vessels and cause the growth of cancerous tumors by activating a type of mechanism in the body.
According to Tekna Technology and Technology News Service, excessive consumption of antioxidants when they are not needed leads to the growth and spread of tumors through the creation of new blood vessels. In general, cancer tumors turn to a source for their growth. They need stable blood and nutrients. This is provided through the creation of new blood vessels. This process, which is called angiogenesis, was investigated by researchers at the Karolinska Institute of Medicine from Sweden.
Martin Bergo, one of the researchers of this research and its author, says: In the review, we found out that a mechanism is activated by antioxidants that can feed tumors by building new blood vessels. This was very surprising. Because before this, antioxidants were considered with a protective role. Tumors grow and spread by feeding these new vessels.
Researchers say that common antioxidants found in foods won’t cause any problems. But their excessive use in people at risk or cancer patients is associated with many risks.
