This statistical leap, which recorded 743 million overnight stays, has brought an unprecedented foreign exchange income of 77.5 billion euros to the economy of this country. Although the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris provided the background to reach 100 million tourists, the continuation of this trend last year shows the success of diversification strategies to tourist destinations and seasonal distribution of passengers.

Despite this economic success, the heavy shadow of “Overtourism” weighs on some of the symbolic places of this country. The historic district of Montmartre in Paris and the Sacré-Cœur church, with 11 million visitors a year, are now facing a phenomenon that local residents call “Disneyfication” or the transformation of traditional fabric into artificial tourist villages.

While Spain is chasing France with 96.8 million tourists and has even surpassed this country in terms of net income, the French government has focused on achieving an income of 100 billion euros by 2030 and becoming a sustainable tourism hub.
