According to RCO News Agency, citing Anatolia News Agency, former South Korean President Yoon Seok-yol was found guilty on Thursday of “planning a rebellion” for his failed attempt to impose martial law in December 2024.
According to this media, he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
South Korean prosecutors wanted the death penalty, but the court chose life imprisonment.
Yoon is the first South Korean president-elect to receive such a sentence for plotting a rebellion.
It should be noted that the Constitutional Court of South Korea dismissed Yoon Suk-yul in a ruling in April last year due to the declaration of a state of emergency.
Yoon Seok-yul’s declaration of a state of emergency in December 2 years ago, which violated South Korea’s constitution, was declared the reason for Yoon’s dismissal.
