Evacuation of al-Hol camp and transfer of its residents to northern Aleppo – Mehr News agency RCO News Agency
According to RCO News Agency, quoted by Al-Mayadin, “Fadi Qasim”, the official appointed by the government to manage the camp’s affairs, announced that the evaluation showed that the camp lacks basic facilities for living, and for this reason, an immediate decision was made to transfer the residents to prepared camps in Aleppo.
He added: The evacuation operation has started today.
A source in the Syrian government also emphasized that the vehicles carrying the residents of the camp have moved from al-Hasakah to the north of Aleppo.
A significant decrease in the population of Al-Hol camp
Celine Schmidt, the spokesperson of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Syria, announced that the population of the Al-Hol camp has decreased significantly in recent weeks, and the Syrian government has informed the agency that it plans to move the remaining residents to another camp and has asked the UNHCR for help in implementing this measure.
Sources affiliated with humanitarian organizations reported last week that most of the foreigners left the camp after Kurdish forces withdrew from the area in late January.
After entering the northern and eastern regions of the country, the Syrian security forces took over the responsibility of the camp and an agreement was reached for the gradual integration of the military and administrative forces in al-Hasakah.
It should be noted that earlier, about 24,000 people, including nearly 15,000 Syrian citizens and about 6,300 foreign women and children from 42 different nationalities, lived in the Al-Hol camp, and most of their respective countries refused to return them, but according to the report of the AFP, the number of camp residents has decreased significantly in recent weeks.
