According to Live Science; New research on the treasure of Tutankhamun’s tomb has revealed a strange symbolism in this pharaoh’s shoes, which shows that even in the afterlife, he flaunted his political power with every step.
These exceptional sandals, which were buried with the body of the “Child King” more than three thousand years ago, are equipped with images of captives and defeated enemies of Egypt on the inner sole. Archaeologists say this clever design allowed the pharaoh to symbolically crush the empire’s enemies with every step.
These clogs, found in leather, linen, and gilded varieties in the tomb, were actually part of a magical ritual to ensure the king’s eternal supremacy over hostile forces and maintain order in the realm of ancient Egypt.
In the images engraved on the soles of these sandals, the famous symbol of “Nine Bows” can be seen, which in Egyptian mythology represented traditional enemies including the Nubians and Asian tribes; In this way, Pharaoh humiliated and oppressed them with every move. Although medical tests have shown that Tutankhamun probably needed crutches to walk due to a birth defect in the leg area, the splendor and elegance of these shoes, which are decorated with thin gold shells and detailed reliefs, show the importance of shoes as a means of displaying royal authority.
These works, which are now kept in the Grand Egyptian Museum, are a unique example of the link between fashion, religion and military propaganda in the Nile Valley civilization.
