Mamdani’s first decree; Cancellation of former New York mayor’s orders on Israel’s immunity
In his first executive order, the new mayor of New York canceled some executive orders issued by the previous mayor; including the executive order related to the prohibition of sanctions or capital withdrawal of urban institutions from the Zionist regime and related institutions.
According to RCO News Agency, the new mayor of New York, Zahran Mamdani, dedicated his first executive order to the complete cancellation of all executive orders issued by the former mayor of New York, Eric Adams, after the 2024 indictment.
The cancellation of previous executive orders includes “Executive Order No. 60”; An order that prohibited city institutions and New York City pension fund officials from sanctioning or withdrawing capital from the Zionist regime or entities related to it in contracts or investments.
However, Mamdani did not disband the New York City Office to Combat Antisemitism, which had been established at Adams’ behest, and said the agency would continue to operate.
On his first day as mayor of New York, Mamdani announced that he plans to “rebuild” the city and mark the beginning of a “new era” for America’s largest city.
A relatively unknown state representative until a year ago, the 34-year-old is now New York’s first Muslim mayor, the first mayor of South Asian descent and the first African-born person to hold the office. He is also the first mayor who entered his office with an oath on the Holy Quran.
Mamdani, who was sworn in by Vermont lawmaker Bernie Sanders, said moments like this “come rarely” and it’s rare that “the people themselves have their hands on the levers of change.”
He added that he was advised to lower expectations when writing his speech, but he won’t.
According to him, the only expectation that needs to change is “small expectations”. He promised that from now on he would rule “with breadth and courage” and that even if they were not always successful, they would “never be accused of lack of courage”.
“The work has just begun,” he concluded.
