According to Mehr news agency, citing Sputnik, the American newspaper Financial Times reported that Ukrainian Preside Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he is ready to give up his demand for NATO membership in exchange for receiving security guaraees from the United States and Europe, and this action is done with the aim of advancing peace negotiations in the talks in Berlin on Sunday.
According to the report of the Financial Times, Zelensky said, referring to this issue: “We are talking about bilateral security guaraees between Ukraine and the United States of America, that is, guaraees similar to Article 5, as well as security guaraees for us from our European partners and other couries such as Canada, Japan and others.”
Zelensky also claimed: This is a compromise at the mome.
These statemes of Zelenskiy come despite the fact that Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman of the Kremlin, said earlier: the guaraee mechanism should be defined not only for security, but also for the implemeation of peace agreemes.
The Russian preside has repeatedly emphasized that Moscow is completely against Ukraine joining NATO.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov recely announced that Ukraine’s adherence to neutrality and non-nuclear status is still one of the conditions for resolving the conflict.
