German chancellor compared Putin to Hitler
In his speech at the Christian Democratic/Christian Social Party conference, the German chancellor compared Vladimir Putin to Adolf Hitler, the leader of Nazi Germany, and the Kremlin’s demands from Kiev to the situation in Europe in 1938.
According to Isna, German Chancellor Friedrich Mertes recalled the year 1938 when France and Great Britain forced Czechoslovakia to hand over the Sudetenland region to Nazi Germany and Hitler, believing that this procedure could prevent war in Europe.
However, these concessions could not curb Hitler’s ambitions, according to newsukraine. Six months later, in March 1939, Germany occupied the remaining parts of Czechoslovakia, breaking all its promises.
The German chancellor further claimed that this is a Russian war against Ukraine and against Europe, and if Ukraine falls, the war will not stop.
He noted that, as in 1938, the Sudetenland was not enough and Putin will not be stopped.
The United States, Ukraine and Europe are still working on a peace plan. Territorial disputes remain the most challenging issue, as Washington wants to cede the Donbass region, while Ukraine rejects such offers.
According to Politico, European leaders are considering creating a 40-kilometer zone between the front lines of Ukraine and Russia as part of a peace deal.
Meanwhile, according to the New York Times, Ukraine has rejected the option of handing over Donbass to Russia in its updated plan.
