Political earthquake in Ukraine; The resignation of the head of Zelensky’s office following the initiation of corruption investigations
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Friday that his chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, had submitted his resignation after the country’s anti-corruption agency opened an investigation against him.
According to Isna, Yermak was known as one of Zelensky’s most influential advisers and led the Ukrainian negotiating team with the United States in the context of recent diplomatic efforts to find a political solution to end the conflict with Russia.
Zelensky announced that the Chief of the General Staff of the Army and other high-ranking officials will represent Ukraine in negotiations with the United States.
The President of Ukraine concluded: “Russia desperately wants Ukraine to make a mistake. “We will not make any mistakes.”
“Yaroslav Zhelezniak”, a member of the Ukrainian Parliament, announced through Telegram a few hours ago that the country’s anti-corruption agencies raided Andriy Yermak’s office.
On November 10, two anti-corruption agencies launched a massive operation called Midas to uncover a major corruption scheme in Ukraine’s energy sector.
The offices of businessman Timur Mindich, ousted Minister of Justice Jerman Galushchenko, and Energotem were searched.
According to the investigators, the people involved in this criminal scheme have laundered at least 100 million dollars. On the same day, Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau began releasing excerpts of recorded conversations in Mindych’s apartment in which corruption schemes were discussed. There are a total of 1,000 hours of recorded audio.
On November 11, the National Anti-Corruption Agency of Ukraine filed the first charges against Mindych as the head of a criminal organization, as well as the former deputy prime minister and former minister of national unity, Maleksi Chernyshov, who is still close to Zelensky. Mindych left Ukraine and fled to Israel a few hours before the inspections.
On November 17, it was reported that Yermak may have appeared in the tapes recorded in Mindich’s apartment under the alias “Alibaba”.
