Lavrov: Some clauses of Trump’s plan are ambiguous and require clarification
The Russian Foreign Minister said today (Tuesday) that the American proposal is in line with what was agreed at the Alaska meeting and he welcomes it. According to Lavrov, some of the terms of the plan, which reached Moscow through unofficial channels, need to be explained.
According to RCO News Agency, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said: “We have communication channels with the Americans and we are waiting for the modified version with the Europeans that the media will report on.”
“Russia has not officially received Trump’s plan, but is ready to discuss a specific version of it,” Lavrov said.
The Russian Foreign Minister added: “Moscow has channels of communication with the United States.” The main points of Trump’s plan for the settlement in Ukraine are based on the Anchorage understandings. Some terms of Trump’s Ukraine peace plan need to be explained. Russia expects the United States to release a version of the plan, which it considers temporary, pending coordination with Europe and Ukraine.
Lavrov also said about Europe’s role in the Ukraine conflict: “Since 2014, Europe has failed on all fronts.”
At a joint press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Maxim Ryzhenkov, Sergey Lavrov said: “President Vladimir Putin made a detailed and clear comment on President Trump’s peace plan a few days ago… Our assessment remains valid, in the sense that the key provisions of Trump’s plan are based on the understandings reached at the Russia-US summit in Anchorage this August.” And these principles are generally reflected in this plan, which we welcomed.”
The Russian minister said that Russia had not received the draft settlement plan in Ukraine through official channels, but was ready to discuss the specific text of the document.
“The media uproar about the peace plan is deliberate and to weaken Trump”
Lavrov added: “Those who are trying to understand the documents contained in (the plan), firstly, they were deliberately leaked to fuel the uproar in the media space, and those who are leading the uproar, of course, are not specifically hiding it.” “They want to undermine Donald Trump’s efforts, they want to rewrite the plan in their own way.”
“Ukraine has not yet responded to the formation of three working groups”
He also said that Russia has not yet received an answer from Ukraine regarding the creation of three working groups.
The head of the Russian diplomatic service added: “We have not yet received a response from them (the Ukrainians) to the proposal to create three working groups, because they complain that in Istanbul they only talk about the humanitarian side of the situation, and no one says anything about the issues that are directly and key to the solution.” We proposed to create three groups: humanitarian, political and military. There is no answer. This was in July this year. There are no answers yet. “Russia has not received a response from Ukraine regarding the proposal to increase the level of delegations in the negotiations.”
“Türkiye and Belarus can be real mediators of peace”
Sergey Lavrov also said: “We certainly appreciate the position of the United States, which is the only Western leader that, unlike London, Brussels, Paris and Berlin, has taken the initiative to find ways to resolve the conflict.” We appreciate this. We also see countries that can play a constructive role as mediators. These countries include Belarus and Türkiye, as the Russian president recently discussed with the Turkish president, who is also interested in helping to create the platform. It was not us who rejected the Istanbul platform, it was the Ukrainians who did it.”
“Europe has failed on all fronts since 2014”
The Russian Foreign Minister added: “But there can be no talk of French and German mediation in the Ukraine conflict. Every time progress was made, these agreements were disrupted. Now, when our European colleagues loudly declare that there will be no new Minsk, that this issue cannot be solved without Europe in any way, because it concerns us, etc., know that this Europe has failed on all fronts since 2014.”
“We will not force America to rush; His commitment to Anchorage will be tested.”
Sergey Lavrov also said today that Russia expects the United States to inform Russia of the outcome of negotiations with Ukraine in the foreseeable future. “We hope that the United States will inform us when it considers its consultations with the Ukrainian regime and the Europeans to be complete,” he stressed. We hope that this will happen in the near and foreseeable future. “Russia will not force the United States to rush and will see to what extent Washington will defend the positions agreed on Ukraine in Anchorage.”
The Russian Foreign Minister added: “We are not rushing our American colleagues. We waited long after Anchorage, talked and simply reminded them that we were committed to those understandings. And it’s good that they finally reaffirmed their commitment to the Anchorage understandings by presenting their own initiative. “We don’t yet know how far they will defend this position and how far they will resist attempts to divert them from the right path.”
