Sarkozy was released from prison
A court in France today (Monday) issued the temporary release of the former president of this country, who was sentenced to five years in prison.
According to RCO News Agency, a court in Paris ruled that Nicolas Sarkozy, the former president of France, will be released until his appeal is heard.
Sarkozy was previously convicted of criminal conspiracy for his involvement in a scheme to finance his 2007 election campaign using funds from Libya in exchange for diplomatic privileges.
On Monday, he spoke at the court session via video conference and stated that “20 days in Lasante prison was very difficult for him”.
Prosecutors had requested that Sarkozy be released under judicial supervision and that his communications be restricted.
According to CNN, the court has also determined that Sarkozy is barred from contacting people involved in his case, as well as the current French justice minister. The minister’s name came to public attention after he visited Sarkozy in prison in October.
