The presence of 15 NATO member countries in Baku to examine the future of relations with Azerbaijan
Ilham Aliyev hosted representatives of 15 NATO member countries in Baku. The two sides discussed the expansion of defense cooperation, energy security, modernization of the army and the role of the Republic of Azerbaijan in NATO missions.
According to RCO News Agency, the Baku Presidency announced that the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev hosted a delegation of representatives of 15 NATO member countries in Baku today (Thursday) to discuss the prospects of deepening cooperation between this Central Asian country and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
“The parties emphasized the close friendly and strategic cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO member states and noted that Azerbaijan has been actively participating in NATO programs since 1994 within the framework of NATO’s Partnership for Peace program,” Baku’s statement said.
During this meeting, the President of Azerbaijan noted that the cooperation between his country and this military alliance also covers areas such as regional development, energy security and other key issues. He emphasized that the process of modernization of the army of the Republic of Azerbaijan will continue.
According to Ria Novosti, the parties also discussed the future perspectives of cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and NATO.
Ilham Aliyev described the support of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the military operations of NATO in Afghanistan as an important part of the cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO.
The delegation included the permanent representatives of Turkey, Greece, Hungary, Montenegro, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Portugal and Spain to NATO, as well as the deputy permanent representatives of the United States and France to NATO.
The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan announced that 39 representatives from NATO member and partner countries participated in a combat readiness evaluation course of ground forces headquarters, units and sub-groups in Baku on Wednesday.
The Republic of Azerbaijan has been cooperating with NATO since 2008 under the defense training promotion program. Baku participates in NATO initiatives focusing on defense sector reforms, anti-terrorism programs and scientific cooperation.
