Axios: America considers the Rafah model as a model for disarming Hamas
The American media reported that the United States sees the Rafah tunnels crisis as a potential model for disarming Hamas and plans to implement it and expand it to other areas.
According to Isna, while sources in the Islamic resistance movement Hamas say that negotiations with mediators regarding the fate of resistance members who are in a tunnel in Rafah are facing complications and obstacles from the Zionist occupation, two knowledgeable American officials told Axios website that the administration of President Donald Trump wants to use this crisis to develop a model for disarming the resistance.
According to the report, persuading Hamas members to lay down their weapons is the most sensitive issue in the so-called Gaza peace plan presented by Trump.
The Zionist regime doubts that Hamas will agree to the disarmament, and the granting of amnesty to Hamas fighters is not acceptable to many members of the far-right coalition of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The US president has repeatedly threatened Hamas, but his representatives want to find a solution without allowing the war to resume. Clashes between the Zionist forces and these Hamas fighters have led to two major failures in the ceasefire.
According to Axios, American officials have been trying to resolve the gap between the Zionists and Hamas members in the past few days. Meanwhile, Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin joined mediation efforts at the request of the United States, Turkish officials said.
The American media writes that during these negotiations, the Trump administration presented a proposal to the Zionist regime to solve the Rafah crisis, and this proposal asked the Hamas fighters in the Rafah tunnels to surrender and hand over their weapons to a third party (Egypt, Qatar or Türkiye). In return, Tel Aviv offers the fighters a general amnesty, provided they do not return to military activities.
According to this report, Hamas fighters are then transferred from areas under the control of the occupiers to areas under the control of Hamas, and the tunnels in which they operated are destroyed.
US officials told Axios that the Trump administration presented the idea to the Israeli regime as a model for how to disarm Hamas peacefully.
“We want this to be a test case that will probably be expanded to other areas of Gaza later,” a US official said. Israel’s position is maximal as usual, but we are in the middle of negotiations.
Another US official said the Israeli side “must mature” and not allow a tactical issue like the Rafah crisis to undermine a strategic issue like the Gaza deal.
A senior Israeli official noted that the Israeli regime is engaging with the United States, but does not currently agree with all elements of the proposal.
Israeli officials said that one of their conditions for allowing the “safe passage” of some Hamas fighters is that the group return the body of Israeli army officer Hadar Goldin.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Kalin met in Istanbul with a delegation of senior Hamas officials, led by Khalil al-Hiya, the group’s political leader in Gaza.
A Turkish security official said: “During the meeting, the two delegations discussed the necessary measures to ensure the proper functioning of the ceasefire process and address the existing problems.” They also discussed possible ways to implement the next steps of the ceasefire plan.
