NASA may not be able to return Martian samples to Earth. Because the US Senate has recently made efforts to reduce the budget of this space agency.
According to Tekna technology and technology news service, NASA has faced problems due to concerns about the reduction of financial budgets in the field of returning Martian samples. According to recent reports, the US Senate has approved only half of the requested budget of this agency and raised concerns about the increase of this budget.
NASA has an ambitious plan to recover samples collected by Endurance. In this program, it is supposed to use a fleet of robotic and autonomous spacecraft. Initially, the amount of NASA’s requested budget for 2024 was 949 million dollars, now the Senate proposed only 300 million dollars and most of it has been reduced. According to published reports, if NASA raises the total cost of this mission to 5.3 billion dollars, it can cancel the allocation of 300 million dollars.
This Congress announced that NASA has spent 1.739 billion dollars for this mission so far. On the other hand, the launch time may be moved to more than 2028, this huge budget can have a negative effect on other NASA missions.
