Announcement of Extraordinary Status in Venezuela Following US hostile Acts – Mehr News Agency | Iranian and world news
Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro said in response to what Caracas described as an increase in US hostile actions against Venezuela, the Mehr News Agency reported.
Venezuelan Vice President Delsey Rodriguez announced earlier Monday that Maduro had signed a command that would allow him to take action on defense and national security issues in the event of any possible US attack on our homeland.
The decree gives Maduro to mobilize the armed forces across the country and exercise the military control over public services and the oil industry.
The Venezuelan government has put its defense forces in alert after widespread US military deployment near the coast of the country.
The United States has deployed a nuclear warship and a nuclear submarine in the south of the Caribbean, claiming that the move has been aimed at countering drug trafficking operations.
But Caracas considers the establishment a clear incitement whose main purpose is to increase the pressure on the Maduro government and to try to change the Venezuelan political system.
In recent weeks, US forces have attacked at least three ships on charges of drug trafficking without any evidence.
The series of operations killed four people, which UN experts cited as examples of “extrajudicial execution” and criticized it.
