Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), officially announced his willingness to nominate the UN Secretary -General.

“I will be a candidate for the UN Secretary -General,” said Grossi, a 6 -year -old press conference in Washington.

He has long been working to take over the UN Secretary -General, the world’s highest diplomatic official.

If he succeeds in the nomination, he will become the second Secretary -General of the United Nations from the Latin American continent after Javier Perez Decuyar.

Grossi announced that the process of finalizing his nomination for the post will be “in the coming weeks”.

The UN Secretary -General’s position will be emptied in January, when Antonio Guterres of Portuguese ends. The winner in the election for a five -year term is chairing the UN, while it is possible to re -election.
