Managers of the Tehran Department of Natural Resources and Watershed Management warn that the capital’s forest parks, including Chitgar, Sorkheh Hesar, Louisiana and Mehrabad, have been exposed to drying and spread of pest. Hossein Damavandi, the deputy director of the Planning Department, cited the main reason for the crisis as water tensions and inappropriate irrigation by the Tehran Municipality.
According to Damavandi, some of the trees in Chitgar Parks and Sarkheh Hesar have already dried up, and natural resources have been forced to cut down trees more than 5 years old to prevent pest spread. The move has raised concerns for citizens.
In this regard, Damavandi urged the Tehran municipality to take serious and urgent measures to save these forest parks and prevent a environmental disaster. He emphasized that if the process continues, the pest of the beetle can threaten all the forests of Tehran.
